RAS - PCB Challenges

By completing the PCB challenges into fabrication will gain you membership in the Electronics team. PcbSetup created by ChrisDerichs will help you get the basic of circuit design and segway into one of the PCB challenges,

Line Sensor Challenge

Difficulty: 5 Fun: 4 Learning: 6 Utility: 7

For many years we have made small robots using arrays of light sensor to detect black and white lines. We need to create the perfect line sensor.

What you will need: - this is covered in more detail in PcbSetup

  • EAGLE by Cadsoft
  • Sensor Datasheets - We have typically used these sensors , but we are open to suggestions
    • Hamamatsu P5587 - we mainly use this sensor due to its small size,
    • Line IR - An older sensor we have used in the past, large and bulky
  • PCB code from the SVN repository (\trunk\pcb) (this needs to be updated soon)
  • PDF of Line Sensor - (see attached file below)

What you will learn: After completing this you'll know how to understand IR line sensors to our robot, understand the PCB software from a system level, and understand how to interface devices to the 9CS12. If you can accomplish this task you'll be a good candidate for a electronics lead the IEEE robotics competitions in 2007.

Remote Control Mux

Difficulty: 2 Fun: 5 Learning: 3 Utility: 5

We always need to create Muxes to switch between remote control and autonomous control.

What you will need: - this is covered in more detail in PcbSetup

What you will learn: After completing this you'll know how to understand wireless switches and remote control to our robot, understand the PCB software from a system level, and understand how to interface devices to the 9CS12. You will also get to drive around a variety of robots by remote control !
