Main Motor Driver Ideas for Ground Vehicle and Beyond
Brushed Motors
- H-bridge Style Modules
- Devantech I2C driver , 5-50V 20Amps ~$70
- Victor's From IFI Robotics 24V 40Amps ~$110
DC Brushless Motor
- Transmotec 42EMB3580N-12 [wwww.transmotec.com main site, go to motors->BLDC]
- Pittman N2313 - 270 dollars with 12 week lead time
- Maxon EC 45 - 400Watt Certain Lead time,
AC Brushless Direct Drive
- Kollmegren- Danaher - D061A - 4000 dollars, long lead time just the motor (its so close to perfect I can almost taste it)
Motor Controller (BLDC)
I've looked around at a few different BLDC ,
- Freescale eval board
- Atmel Eval Board
- Microchip PICDEM LV eval board
From looking at lead time and overall constraints, the PICDEM LV seems to be the best system from the specifications and documentation. It can be ordered from DigiKey? or directly from Microchip,
Random Ideas
- Use a built AC drive like this AutomationDirect Drive and control using serial. Handles up to 3-5 horsepower,
- With a standard AC drive controller, we could try out a few different types of AC motors either surplus or ebay, probably around 1/4-1 horsepower should be sufficient power but the speed x torque is really whats important
