About Us
The IEEE Robotics & Automation Society at The University of Texas-Austin inspires greater research into the field of robotics and aims to make robotics more accessible to persons of all ages and backgrounds. We have been a student organization building robots since 1997 and have primary residence in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Our group has a large majority of undergrads with backgrounds from mechanical, electrical, aerospace engineering and computer science. We help students gain practical multi-disciplinary experience in the lab and demonstrate our abilities at various robotics competitions. We also keep a high priority in community outreach as shown below with our periodic events.

Outreach Events
  • The Austin Children's Museum: demonstrating our robots and describing the engineering problem solving process to children attending their robot camps.
  • Anderson High School Robotics: mentoring their robotics team in BEST, FIRST, and other robotics competitions.
  • The College of Engineering at UT Austin: various outreach events, including Explore UT, Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day, and work with Cheryl Farmer, Senior Program Coordinator - Engineering Education Outreach
Competitions
  • Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC): An outdoor autonomous navigation and vision challenge with over 40 universities from around the world, held in Michigan
  • IEEE Region V - Robotics : A robotics competition with over 40 universities around the southwest states, usually held at different university each year
  • DPRG RoboRama: A small scale robotics competition with various levels of robot challenges held in Dallas, Texas
  • FIRST Robotics: Our members volunteer for 6 weeks to mentor high school students in the FIRST Robotics Competition
  • BEST Robotics: Our members volunteer for 6 weeks to mentor high school students in the BEST Robotics Competition
